step it up by theCHAMBA step it up by theCHAMBA
ok ok..

this is jst a step by step thing on how a pic is usually made.. by me

01- i do the initial pose and what'not using my 4h lead pencil.

NOTE : i jst changed it 2 that red-ish colour in Photohop jst for kicks

the rest is al follows...

02 - i began w/ the arm. i drew these lines w/ my HB Mechanical pencil

03 - i then moved onto the body and head. i think his gace came out noice

04 - then onto the legs.. which i found a lil' tricky... coz the only ref i had was this Don Figueroa cover i found online.. and that bad part about that is that Don's Mecha's are JUST TOOO GOOD

05 - then i did the rest.. finished it off is what i did

06 - this is jst the lines w/o those coloured-up 4H lines... i jst overlayed that in PS to give it that previous look anyway

07 - this is what my lines look like str8 from the scanner... no levelling.. nada...

08 - now this one here's been contrast 'tweaked'. i also added a slightly thicker border around him and gave his arm a bit of line-weight

yep...

that's it..

and i gotta say..

RESPECT to those who draw Mecha's and make thems shit look easy... RESPECT!

Hats off to you, sir.
You might be the best artist I've seen in my one year in dA.

look at you and that fancy mech you got there. I'd say well done! and for not tweaked lines from a scanner that looks fantastic. My question is, how exactly did you give the lines more weight after you messed with the levels, whats your method for doing that?

Overall fantastic, and can't wait to see more. :D

i tried using the blue before
but its hard to keep a sharp edge and maintain the fine lines
plus you can still go to dark and have the blue come up in the scan

i've never tried.. so i'd never really kno

blues alright
but i find because its a coloured pencil you tend to ge thicker "chalky" lines its not a bad thing but if you cant quite get your sketch right and have to many lines its really hard to determine your good sketch from the others

very different way to approach something like this, which i like. I have gone into a habit in using VELUM paper to clean up my lines, since i have no real access to photoshoppe or any of those computer materials. I WILL ONE DAY!!! But not now. Good looking out for all those artist who need help cleaning themselves up ( like me) Though i wasn't a big fan of Voltron. I was a Macross fan, since MACROSS PLUS came out...:-D Later man.

Nice! I was never really able to draw mechas. I tried a few times, but eh... it's just really hard without references. ^^;

So you don't ink your work then? You just use pencil and then play with the contrast on the comp before you color?

Oh man, this is crazy. So freakin' detailed. My nephew would love this. I've been wondering about the process you go through when producing stuff, too. If you could do one with people in crazy poses though, that would be way awesome as well. Well, at least the first step would be useful. Anyways, I'm lovin' this a lot right now.
