This is the last one...

Instead of Snow White and the 7 Drawfs.... i did

Snow White & the 7 Deadly Sins.....

this is part 3 : Snow White & the 7 Deadly Sins

This one here is my favourite [no shit].... ahh... i did this pic in different time frames... but all up.. i'd say it took me a good 5 hours... [pretty spiffy i think]

---story behind image--- [this is gonna be long]
Now with each Sin, I wanted to depict a different feeling and character to each figure. Weíll start off with the Sin of Wrath, also known as Anger. If you couldnít tell already, Wrath is the dark monster-like figure towering her left shoulder. I decided to represent Wrath this way because I see wrath has being full of anger, and hate. Anger is usually affiliated with dark tones, and so I decided to make Wrath with a lot of dark render. Now the reason why I decided not to make it have a face is because with Wrath, being total anger, being clouded in darkness is my representation of him being possessed only by anger and anger alone. Wrath not only would have a heart of darkness, but a mind that thinks of nothing but anger.
Next on the line up is the Sin Greed, shown as the character tightly holding onto Snow Whiteís skirt. This Sin was a little hard to show in character form, and this was one of the only ways that I could think of depicting greed without showing greed of money. In this case, this Sinís greed is of Snow White Herself. Only he wants her to himself, and he lays an ever-looking eye to see that nobody will try to take her from him.
The Sin Sloth was next. Sloth is the sin on lazy of all physical and spiritual things. So the best way that I could think of presenting Sloth was as a Dummy, in other words a wooden puppet on strings. Now think for a minute on why I decided to do this. Well, a wooden puppet can not move or do anything on itís own, and is a human-like figure without any inner functioning. A wooden puppet is basically an empty shell, which carries no soul or anything for that matter to make it even function on itís own. Thatís why Sloth is presented this way, as a puppet who is lazy (or lacks anything) of physical and spiritual things.
Next up was the Sin of Lust. Lust is the excessive desire for the pleasures of the body. You can probably tell which character Lust is. If you canít tell, sheís the one pulling on the thin ropes attached to her nipple rings. So I tried my best to represent Lust in a way that shows self-pleasuring of the body. I tried my best to show it symbolise things a best as I can without showing too much to the point where it could be classified as illustrated pornography.
The Next sin that was drawn was the Sin of Pride, also known as the Sin of Vanity. Though I decided to depict more the sin of Pride. Pride - the excessive belief in oneís own ability, to the point that nothing else matters. He is depicted as the bulky figure with the sinister smile. I tried my best to show him as a character that showed total confidence, only in himself. The reason on why he is smiling so big. The crossed arms shows or tries to show that he thinks of himself on a higher level or ranking than the other sins, pretty much that no one is above his status. His huge frame is just my representation of just how inflated he is of his own pride.
The Sin of Envy was next. This was probably the hardest Sin to depict as a character form. So what I did first was carefully read the definition of the Sin envy. Sin - Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation. And then I got it. So then I drew this Sin envying the others around her so much, that she tries to copy them in different ways. Her appearance is a cross between Snow White and Lust, the Tubes on the back of her Neck is taken from Wrath, her pose is taken from Prideís stance, and the expression on her face is kind of taken from Greedís look. It was the best things that I could think of at the time, so I went with it. Iím quite pleased by Envyís end result.
The last Sin that I drew was actually the first Sin that I actually designed. This was the Sin of Gluttony. The desire to consume more than one require. Itís pretty obvious that gluttony is presented as the large behemoth. The reason for this is because, as the definition says, This sin has consumed a hell of a lot of things, more things than all the other six sins can consume. I actually had many different designs for this character, tho I liked this one the best.
[sorry if that was long]

I guessed 5/7 sins, but got gluttony and wrath mixed up. I thought gluttony was wrath because of the bulky build and the incredibly squinted angry face. Then I thought wrath was gluttony because of the teeth and open mouth, and because i already thought the big guy was wrath.

Greeds obsession for snow white and watchful eyes in case anyone gets near her seems like sexual (not sex or perversion but bonding) envy.

Thought you might find this interesting; a poem I read in my AP class that your deviation reminded me of.

Snow White and the Seven Deadly Sins
by R.S Gwynn (b. 1948)

Good Catholic girl, she didn't mind the cleaning.
All of her household chores, at first, were small
And hardly labors one could find demeaning.
One's duty was one's refuge, after all.

And if she had her doubts at certain moments
And once confessed them to the Father, she
Was instantly referred to texts in Romans
And Peter's First Epistle, chapter III.

Years passed. More sinful every day, the Seven
Breakfasted, grabbed their pitchforks, donned their horns,
And sped to contravene the hopes of heaven,
Sowing the neighbors' lawns with tares and thorns.

She set to work. Pride's wall of looking glasses
Ogled her dimly, smeared with prints of lips;
Lust's magazines lay strewn, bare tits and asses
Weighted by his "devices" - chains, cuffs, whips.

Gluttony's empties covered half the table,
Mingling with Avarice's cards and chips,
And she'd been told to sew a Bill Blass label
Inside the blazer Envy'd bought at Gyps.

She knelt to the cold master bathroom floor as
If a petitioner before the Pope,
Retrieving several pairs of Sloths's soiled drawers,
A sweat-sock and a cake of hairy soap.

Then, as she wiped the Windex from the mirror
She noticed, and the vision made her cry,
How much she'd grayed and paled, and how much clearer
Festered the bruise of Wrath beneath her eye.

"No poisoned apple needed for this Princess,"
She murmured making X's with her thumb.
A car door slammed, bringing her to her senses:
Ho-hum. Ho-hum. It's home from work we come.

And she was out the window in a second,
In time to see a Handsome Prince, of course,
Who, in spying her distressed condition, beckoned
For her to mount (What else?) his snow-white horse.

Impeccably he spoke. His smile was glowing.
So debonair! So charming! And so Male.
She took a step, reversed and without slowing
Beat it to St. Anne's where she took the veil.

I never post comments though I got to say this is one cool piece of artwork! :winner:

However I thought these were the seven deadly sins?

Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

The seven sins are so popular nowadays. I even have an idea for villains in a martial arts based story/comic/game/movie/animation. Each will have powers based on their sins, and the main idea is ninjas. The eighth villain will be their lead know as Sineral (the general of sin; still working on it).

Full Metal Alchemist may have been the influence of this phenomenon.
theCHAMBA Featured By Owner Dec 9, 2009
possible the greater influence, but i didn't know of FMA when I did this.

Damn you, you stupid... clever... artistic... garg who totally stole my idea! (here's some proof that I can't compliment before 10 am) Whenever I think of Snow White, I like best the idea of the seven being sins, so was happy to find this. We have greatly varying views on it, but that's a good thing ^^ and your designs made me think more about the sins themselves. Thanks for the explanation on each one, it adds a lot of depth to your picture. I think of envy as a mirror, since it's a formless view of other things, and the stepmother, etc, but I really liked your take on it -her- being a little bit of everything. Sloth was really, really clever, and the most unnerving for me, thought I think blank expressions do that.
