Anima: Gate of Memories by theCHAMBA Anima: Gate of Memories by theCHAMBA
Drawn on : 2013-01-05
Contest looked interesting and it gave an excuse to create a monster (but who really needs to create a monster, right?)
What I drew up here is actually a Kappa, disguised or costuming itself as a Tengu. Mash up combo style!
Weapon of choice: either his monstrous smoke pipe, or talon gauntlet. *shrugs*

I would have coloured it, but I currently don't have Photoshop and I didn't wanna botch it up with traditional colours (in case colour bleeds etc)

Had to do a monster
Everybody was probably too inclined to do humans, and Monsters are just too fun

You know....
I'm not entirely sure.
but I believe that a Kiwi is just a small flightless bird native to New Zealand.

Friggin awesome, I did a blog post advertising the game. If you don't mind, could I post this art in there for an edit?

Gimp and/or the trial version of Paint Tool Sai? I mean, you're Udon level, so it's not my place to give input.

Really cool. Your linework seems a little more detailed and textured than usual, and it quite kicks the ass.

It's something that's always in me, but not always appropriate for a piece.
So I use it when it feels more right is all =)

That's definitely how I meant it ;) You usually let the color do a lot of the talking, and indeed it wouldn't work as well with such detailed lines. But as is right now, naked lines, I really dig them :)

Do you have any methods available to make a physical copy of the lineart then color that?
Reply
:iconthechamba:
theCHAMBA Featured By Owner Jan 6, 2013
If I did, I would have gone that route.

Well there's always the photocopy route. You can get pretty decent results nowadays. But as is, the linework is pretty self-sufficient.

I could have, but Don't have access to that in house and I wasn't going to go way out of my way to get it done, heh.
I felt that this showed what I needed to show.
If when I get PS again and I feel like colouring it, then I will. But I'm more than good with how it is

So am I! Eventhough I love colored works, I'm still very partial to good ol' pen and ink / linework. It really sings in its own unique way, and is a lot less forgiving than pretty color embellishement.

But don't be mistaken, I love your colors too!

thanks dude.

Yeah it sucks when folks expect a colour treatment when the lines really are the intended final for some things.
Meh
all good
