A look into the Rose by theCHAMBA A look into the Rose by theCHAMBA
cover, that is.

So usually i come up w/ 2 - 3 layout options. Done directly into PS, as it tends to go quicker.
They went with Option 1.

Once layout was decided upon, I then drew it up on the UDON comic paper provided by UDON.
Did a basic rawscan usually @ 150%/300DPI (no pre-colour levelling etc, jst basic scan) to get see if any edits etc would be needed.

Once it was approved I then coloured it up in Photoshop7 using an Intuos2.
This too needs to be approved before I upload it to the FTP.

and that's it.

I might go into it further, but the PSD colour reference file i uploaded pretty much cover how I go about it colour-wise.

Damn... It hurts knowing that I want to be a pro artist so bad, but I first need to reach your level or higher. You're a beast.

Rose has never looked better!

Thank you for showing us the different layout options you considered, it's kind of nice to see the compositional elements you were considering for this pic as well as the final version.

Awesome job on the coloring too!

It's interesting to know that even the roughs have to go through a QA process. When we work with clients on the web, it's a similar deal (wireframes/layout first, etc.)

Goes to show that it's never as simple as "here's my work, check pls".

nice! I kinda liked the placement of the head in the first one. it look less like a pose and more like an action.

So see when you scan in the raw sketch? Do you re-outline it in Photoshop or do you just go straight to coloring & shading?

This is awesome by the way. Awesome as always. :)

Option 2 is way more visually interesting but ya gotta do what the boss wants. :) Both are great so it's win-win anyway. :)

Slightly unrelated question here but I figure you might know:

What's the ruling on what side Sagat's eyepatch, Vega's claw is on because it flips sides in the game?
Reply
:iconthechamba:
theCHAMBA Featured By Owner May 5, 2009
i think it's sagat's right eye, and vega's left hand

So you did the sketches in ps then when you got a go you drew it on boards, then put it back on ps to color. And you said this method is faster?

Do you print the sketch out or just work from computer?
